Employee Profile: Chris May
Farm Manager: La Paz, Mexico
Background:
Lived in five foreign countries and have worked with 15+ golf courses. Mostly in tropical locations with warm season turf grasses. Four year degree in International Relations/Economics and four year degree in soil science and ornamental horticulture.
Responsibilities in Mexico:
Go into work at 7 a.m. and leave when finished. It's 63 degrees when I arrive and 108 degrees when I leave! Establishment on Platinum Paspalum and the installation of St. Augustine and Zoysia varieties.
Obstacles:
The temps are always high in the afternoon and the helpers tend to slow down by the day's end (who can blame them?). We have very dry/windy days with high temps that are not conducive to establishing freshly imported sprigs.
What do you Love about Mexico?:
Absolutely love the food here and that there are no mosquitos or gnats. Everyday is sunny and the beaches are incredible. I'm there everyday (just kidding Phillip).
What do you dislike?:
No one stops at stop signs so you're always guessing when and which way to go.
Best thing for luch:
Marlin burritos!!
Hobbies:
Golf
Family:
Happily single.
Favorite TV show:
Any show these days in English is my favorite one.
Favorite sports team:
Green Bay Packers and anyone playing UGA!!
Where is home base and what do you miss:
I consider Wisconsin home and I miss the potable water there!
